About time EG ran a cover image of a boy kitted out in skin-tight, hot pink, Lycra tights, wouldn't you say? Personally, I wonder why the ensemble (worn with panache by the Presets' Julian Hamilton) hasn't been rounded out with roller skates, a canary yellow feather boa and a trilby. But I could be alone in that thought, possibly with too much time on my hands. What we should, of course, be talking about is the Presets' sound - which thanks to commercial radio play and a BMW advertisement you're no doubt quite familiar with. Hummed along to in the car, even. As for whether it's neat, end-of-days disco or forging a seismic shift in the tectonic plates of electronic music, well, you can decide for yourself (Andrew Murfett catches up with Hamilton and Kim Moyes on page 4). Continuing the theme of extravagant gestures this week are the Teenagers, whose penchant for colourful turns of phrase can, apparently, either be interpreted as "super fun" or "super dirty" (see page 13). Another figure whose story might be read two ways - great warrior, brutal tyrant - is the subject of Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov's Mongol. Genghis Khan is his name (see page 8), epic is his tale. Other things - Barry Adamson (page 11), Kimya Dawson (page 10) and The Herd (page 11) come to town, plus The Band's Visit (page 6) and Rachel Berger (page 9). Do enjoy, I'm off to find roller skates. -- Liza Power, editor
